San Diego to LA for Kidney Donation Awareness

Why I Move

This November, I’m embarking on a 152-mile ultra marathon from San Diego to Venice, CA. This endeavor is more than a physical challenge; it's a heartfelt commitment to shine a spotlight on kidney disease and support the life-saving work of the National Kidney Foundation. The cause is deeply personal to me, as kidney disease has profoundly affected my family. All four of my cousins on my father’s side have faced this daunting battle, with three undergoing kidney transplants. Tragically, our grandfather also succumbed to this disease many years ago. Currently, I am navigating the process of becoming a kidney donor for one of my cousins, a journey that has only deepened my resolve to make a difference. My mom and another family member have gone through the life-saving act of kidney donation as well.

Kidney disease is a silent epidemic affecting 1 in 3 American adults, placing them at risk for a condition that drastically alters lives. Today, over 100,000 individuals are on the waiting list for a kidney transplant, facing average waiting times of 3-5 years, with durations extending even longer due to various factors. Behind these numbers are real people—families waiting for a call that could bring a second chance at life.

The National Kidney Foundation is at the forefront of advocating for patients, supporting research, and providing crucial education to reduce the impact of kidney disease. Their work is vital in improving outcomes for those with kidney disease, facilitating organ donation, and ensuring better healthcare policies. By supporting this incredible organization, we can help shorten the transplant waiting list and improve the quality of life for those battling this condition.

As I run, I urge you not only to consider supporting this cause financially but also to reflect on the profound impact of organ donation. Becoming a kidney donor can save lives, offering hope and a future to someone in dire need. Your contribution, whether by donation to the National Kidney Foundation or by considering becoming a kidney donor, can make a tremendous difference.

Let’s unite for this cause. Every donation brings hope, every mile I run symbolizes a step towards awareness, and every conversation about kidney donation can save a life. Join me to support the National Kidney Foundation and shine a light on the critical need for kidney donors. Together, we can make a difference.
