Why I Move
Right now, 37 million American adults are living with kidney disease, and I am one of them. I was diagnosed with Glomerulonephritis (a lupus-like kidney condition) when I was just 20 years old. I was a student at UCLA and went to the doctor for a physical after having constant headaches and a never-ending cold, and the doctor discovered that my blood pressure was dangerously high. To make a long story short, I was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease that I have suffered with controlling the past 22 years, to the point where my kidney function hovers around 30%.
I have always loved running, I ran cross country and track in high school, and in the past several years running has become not only my meditation, but what my kidney doctor says is the best medicine to help manage my chronic kidney disease. I ran the LA Marathon in 2018 and it was an incredible experience that I have been wanting to repeat. My 17-year-old son William is also an avid runner. He, too, runs high school track and cross country, and he ran the LA Marathon twice, at only was 12 and 13 years old! I am so proud of my son and I am so proud to share that… On March 17, 2024, William and I will run the LA Marathon TOGETHER for the first time.
William and I want to make this Marathon mean something more than just an effort to cross the finish line together. We are also running to help to raise funds that support the National Kidney Foundation, who was the first to identify kidney disease as a distinct, treatable illness. They developed the staged system of kidney disease diagnosis and treatment – a worldwide standard today – and release and update treatment guidelines to improve patient care.
Please join us in helping to make these advances possible by donating to our efforts!
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support!
