Running for a Cause: My Journey to the NYC Marathon
This November, I'll be lacing up my running shoes and hitting the pavement in the NYC Marathon, not just for the thrill of the race, but for a cause that's close to my heart: the National Kidney Foundation. As I prepare for this 26.2-mile journey, I am driven by the mission to raise awareness and funds for kidney disease, a condition that affects millions of people worldwide.
The Importance of Kidney Health
Kidney disease is a silent epidemic. Did you know that 1 in 3 adults in the United States is at risk for kidney disease? Or that 37 million American adults have chronic kidney disease (CKD) and most don't even know it? Kidneys play a crucial role in our overall health by filtering waste and excess fluids from the blood. When kidneys fail, it can lead to serious health complications, including heart disease, stroke, and death.
Why I Run
My decision to run for the National Kidney Foundation is personal. I have friends and family members impacted by kidney disease. I am inspired by the stories of those who battle kidney disease every day, and I am determined to make a difference. Running this marathon is my way of supporting them and contributing to the vital research, education, and support services that the National Kidney Foundation provides.
How You Can Help
Running a marathon is no small feat, but together, we can achieve something even greater. Your donation can help fund:
- Research: Innovative studies aimed at improving the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of kidney disease.
- Education: Programs that inform the public and healthcare professionals about kidney health and disease prevention.
- Support: Services that assist patients and families affected by kidney disease, including financial aid, support groups, and transplant resources.
About The National Kidney Foundation
The National Kidney Foundation is the leading organization in the United States dedicated to the awareness, prevention, and treatment of kidney disease. The National Kidney Foundation was the first organization to identify kidney disease as a distinct, treatable illness. The organization developed the staged system of kidney disease diagnosis and treatment – a worldwide standard today – and releases an updated set of guidelines periodically through its Kidney Disease Outcomes Quality Initiative (KDOQI). These guidelines provide evidence-based recommendations for the diagnosis and management of chronic kidney disease, helping clinicians around the globe improve patient outcomes.
Join Me in the Fight Against Kidney Disease
I invite you to join me on this journey to make these advances possible by donating to my efforts! With your help, The National Kidney Foundation can continue its critical work in saving lives and improving the quality of life for millions.
Thank you for your support!
-Tony
