Why I Run
For my father.
For my brother.
For my aunt.
For my uncles.

Right now, 37 million American adults are living with kidney disease. I walk because 1 in 3 people are at risk for kidney disease. I run because more than 1 in 7 people have it but aren’t aware.

I run for my father, brother, aunt and uncles.

Kidney disease has impacted my family more than once. It's my dream to use this opportunity to not only raise funds that support the National Kidney Foundation, who was the first to identify kidney disease as a distinct, treatable illness but also check running the New York City Marathon (26.2 miles!)  off my bucket list. My drive and motivation to complete this is all for my family so help me reach my goal of $3,000!

Join me in making these advances possible by donating to my efforts! Sunday, November 3 is the big marathon day and it'll be here before we know it! I'll use this page to update you on my training journey starting with a half marathon (13.1 miles!) on Sunday, April 28.

Thank you for your support. It means the world to me!

Love,
Phylicia

Ever wonder what the route looks like? Here's 26.2 miles through all FIVE NYC boroughs. 53 days. It's setting in for sure!

Halfway through training. This Saturday long run was a struggle. I had pain in my hip and lower back which made for a slow walk/run over 10 miles. To top it off, those clouds over NYC brought on/off rain.

Week 6/16 route. Two laps around Central Park. Double digit mile long run for the next few weeks. Keep my knees and hip in your prayers 😅🙏🏾

Another training week in the books. Good ol summer runner’s tan in full effect 😂 shin splints were manageable today. Felt good to complete this week’s long run 💪🏾

Week 3-4 pic with amazing folks from Fleet Feet training group. Humidity was crazy that weekend but should make things easier when it gets cooler.

Ran a 5k on the 4th of July! First race since getting my hip and foot pain under control. NYC Marathon group training officially kicks off on July 17! Stay tuned for updates!

Update: I was supposed to run the Real Simple Women's Half on April 28. However, due to a foot injury, I decided not to run the 13.1 miles. Instead, I'm continuing to focus on working with my personal trainer to get better!
