Why I Run
Right now, 37 million American adults are living with kidney disease. As an ICU nurse I see everyday the impact kidney disease has on patients and families. I treat patients on emergent dialysis, CRRT and see patients that get dialysis 3 days a week. Many don't even know they have kidney disease or other underlying conditions that can lead to kidney disease. I've seen first hand with a loved one the toll kidney disease takes on the body. My grandfather was diagnosed with end stage renal failure and ended up on dialysis. I'm running for him, patients I've treated and future patients to come with kidney disease.
I run to raise funds that support the National Kidney Foundation, who was the first to identify kidney disease as a distinct, treatable illness. They developed the staged system of kidney disease diagnosis and treatment – a worldwide standard today – and release and update treatment guidelines to improve patient care.
Join me in making these advances possible by donating to my efforts!
